Looking for info about potentially moving down under.   I'm an air traffic controller, my wife is finishing her degree in wildlife biology.

We've got some baggage though (2 parrots, one dog) that I couldn't live without.  The dog might not be around forever, but those birds will outlast both of us and end up with one of our kids (Umbrella cockatoo and a Green wing Macaw).

I'd like a huge change of pace, and would like to relocate outside of the US. waytogo

The Macaw has been bagged, so I guess I'll take the parrot(wasnt going to use that other word).  waytogo

I know that it can be difficult immigrating depending on a number of different factors. A mate of mine just went through this - I'll ping him for some info - if may help.

There is at least a 30 day period that the dog has to stay in quarantine, depending on when it had it's last rabies shot. Here is a website with the info:

 http://www.daffa.gov.au/aqis/cat-dogs

There is some stuff on birds there (in the "other pets" page) but it doesn't look good.

Hey Theo,

It is a pretty involved process but Aussie Immigration are well on the ball.
I have done this both direction Oz>Canada and Canada>Oz.
Let me say is was a far easier process coming back home here with my wife than me going to Canada.
As to the animals, yes they will need to stay in Quarantine it is min 30 days if you start the process 6 months before you want to leave to come here.
Our cat cost us the best part of Rizoma rearsets/Speedymoto triples and s few other little bits of billet to make the journey.
However if your beloved Dog is that old he/she may not make the journey so well, the birds I am sure will handle it.

Anything else you might need to ask just shoot me an email and I'll do what I can.

cheers
Matty...

yeah....if you were an Indian student who wanted to study a course you had no interest in we'd welcome you with open arms and hand out a PR to you despite the fact you're of no known advantage to the country or the population  what so ever....but unfortunately you're American with skills....So no RESIDENCY for you!!!!

love this governement...they are full of win!  bang head

have you looked at government jobs overseas?

they move you, help you with immigration and PAY your housing... not a bad gig.

why do you think the English built an Empire? Wasn't because they were overly power-hungry, they just wanted a reason to get away from the place!

I have noticed...

TAftonomos - buy your bike goodies now. Australia will rape you for anything you purchase locally...
