Machine your own wave disc?

Hi guys!

I was surfing the web a bit, checkin' out some wave discs, and noticed they are really expensive (normal discs too). I started to wonder, would it be possible to machine the standard discs to a wave disc shape (ussuming they are still thick enough)? Or would you encounter strength issues? Just a hypothetical question...

Cheers!

I think Taftonomos did his own rear disc.

there is no reason you couldn't, although machining a perforated/drilled disk is going to be tricky.

you'll need a good design and CNC cutter and then balance it dynamically.

But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

I bought a pair of Alth front discs and then found out that they don't offer a matching rear disc :(  They have one that fits except for the ?wave? on the edge.  I think it would take some expensive equipment to do it right.

Tough, but not impossible. I'd suggest you find some scrappers to experiment on first before you attempt to cut up something newer.

A local shop, Duc Pond,  makes light rotors out stock rear duc rotors

A rear rotor?  Sure, no problem there.  You'll need a pattern and a few drill dits at a min, or a CNC at your disposal.

I personally, wouldn't do the fronts.

Those DucPond units are really cool!

Contact Eric at Clubhouse Motorsports in New Hampshire. I know he had a pattern for some he was working on when I was there a few months ago. I think he said that he was trying to get enough orders together to have them made.
