Skaggs Springs Road north of San Francisco

An amazing ride not to miss.  In addition to the numerous great rods north of San Fran on and off the 1 - my favorite road is the Skaggs Springs road - particularly on my S4RS Tricolore that has been beautifully built-up by Hatar motorsports in San Rafael, CA.
I came back a few weeks ago from 10 days and 2000 miles of riding all over that part of northern CA - to those from the east who can afford it - trailer, ship, or ride your bike out that way and see how amazing this part of our country is and the riding will completely blow you away.............  Do not miss riding here before you die.....

It hasn't been a 'secret' for a long time now.

I rode Skaggs a couple of weeks ago.   The road is wonderful, but the scene SUCKS!!  Never have I wanted to get off a road so badly.  We saw everything -- a rider blowing the DY and crashing (almost taking Michael Moore out head-on in the process), riders with trackbikes and slicks doing laps, crashed bikes just sitting on the side of the road, dudes with mohawks, cars coming into blind turns in our lane, bike clubs, car clubs, every biker with his wheels on the DY and his bike and body over.  I just stayed on the outside of every turn and did everything I could to avoid the apex cuz of the number of idiots out there.  The next day, a rider died when he plowed into a car.  

The road is great, but there's no run-off, a lot of guardrails and a lot of triple digit corners (if you're railing).  There's a reason that so many Skaggs crashes end up with someone hurt.  Guardrails aren't soft.  If I need track time, there's Sears Point or Laguna or Thunderhill.  If I want to ride the street, there are too many good roads around that area to bother with Skaggs.

That said, I'd be happy to ride it on a Tuesday in winter.   [moto]

True but it does have its moments of serenity. I was active in the thread where MM recited that experience and had just ridden it a few days before IIRC and it was empty and serene (well as serene as it could be with a Ducati with a 50mm system at full honk can be!  ) and that was on a Sunday!

the day me and elTristo hit it there was barely ever another vehicle on the road, and none going our way
