I usually do not post personal family matters on the interwebs just because I like my privacy.  But I do want to post about recent family happenings if it helps someone out there.

My family tree is plagued with all sorts of IBD disorders.  Ulcerative colitis, Chrones (sp?), etc.  I have been getting colonoscopies since I was in my early 20's and with proper meds my condition has been stable with no flare ups for almost 20 years.  I'm a lucky one.

My sister is not a lucky one.... she has refused to get the procedure either due to stupidity or embarrassment. You pick

Without getting to graphic or into personal details.

My sisters life was saved by a colonoscopy.  She will need surgery but things could have been ALOT worse if she did not get the procedure.  Her refusal to get a colonoscopy all these years has led to her advanced illness.

So think of this as a Public Service Announcement.  Proper screenings can save your life or someone you love.

Been trying to convince my Mom to get one, she is 63.

My Dad had one a few years ago and was good, but she still refuses.

kind of pisses me off, but it is her decision.

Thank you for the PSA and sharing.  Best wishes to your sister.

Yes, I got my first one last year to celebrate my first official day of retirement.

My father-in-law has refused colonoscopys for years. He recently was diagnosed with fairly advanced colon cancer...something that would have been detected MUCH earlier if he had his yearly check ups. They removed 12" of colon to get the cancer, and he'll be on chemo for the next 6 months. Outlook is very good...but it could have been much easier!

I had to have one a few years back. They're not fun, but I don't see why people fight getting them so much.  ???

Dont take this the wrong way but Im actually looking forward to my first colonoscopy......

My wifes lower GI specialist will be doing the procedure and she was voted one of DC's sexiest people by Washingtonian Magazine.

Just knowing that she might have to push the goods aside makes it all worthwhile!

Ill get my coat....

Most people are put under for the procedure.  The worst part is the prep. Drinking the liquid ass cleanser.

Dave Barry has a pretty entertaining bit about the cleanser.

And as mentioned, thank you for putting this out there. Best wishes for your sister.

Whatever, man. Better to look forward to one for the wrong reasons than to put one off until its too late.

I can't wait until Marquez gets on his level and makes Jorge trip on his tampon string.

It is also good to eat a light, mosly liquid diet the day before the prep.  A pound of steak is not a good idea.
