Wet clutch question

Hi, I've got a 695 with a wet clutch. Got the dry clutch sound envy bug but not gonna commit to a conversion. Question I have is regarding the sound deadening panel on the inside of the wet clutch cover. Say I were to pull my clutch cover at the next oil change and pulled that panel out, would I get a little closer to that beloved sound? Any adverse effects that anyone can think of? thanks for input!

I was thinking of removing that panel when I just swapped my APTC for an 800SS clutch.  When I took a look at it though, I decided to leave it in.  The panel is more substantial than I thought it would be.  It is listed in some manuals as a "clutch case protector".  If there were some internal clutch failure, or a tip-over on the clutch side, I think that panel might come in handy.

Raux

with the way it's shaped against the clutch case do you think it helps with oil flow during cornering?

svr

that's certainly seems like a possibility, but seems like there wouldn't be much flow behind it due to that gap being small.  anyone else have any thoughts?

My bike went over and punched a hole in the cover(wet clutch), the deadner/protector kept metal and gravel from entering the moving clutch before the bike could be shut off. If i had a dry clutch i am pretty sure i would have sustained more damage then a clutch/side cover.
I still want a dry clutch though.
As for the oil baffles, i am not sure, nor can i say it will make the beloved Italian Tambourine sound, or similar. Our engines make a ton of racket as it is, due to the valve train. The dry clucth makes a significantly different sound. My point here, is that, i  would think that taing out the clutch deadner would add more noise to the engine, making it more difficult to hear engine irragularities.....but perhaps not, as i have never heard the difference.

The 848 has a little bit of the dry clutch rattle, at least more than my 620.  The parts guide for it does not list any of the inserts in the side cover, I have yet to have it off yet to see if there is anything in there or not.

what clutch are you running?

it is the APTC or a non-slipper? or are you using a true slipper?

Sorry that was a bit unclear, I have both an 848 and a 620 monster.  The 848 still has the factory non slipper clutch in it.  The 620 has a 800ss clutch in it.  The 848 does make a little bit of the clutch rattle like the dry clutch bikes, I don't know if it is due to basket design or if they lack the insulation on the side cover.

on ebay there is an 848 ergal slipper clutch for sale. have you seen  it? what's your opinion on it?

also are your two clutches interchangeable? reason is i just picked up a used 848 clutch and want to make sure i didnt' waste my money.

Is it the one Motowheels is selling?  It does look like a quality piece, though I have no FHE.  I don't feel the slipper is needed for street riding though, if you plan on doing many track days it would be a good investment.
Unfortunatly I have not checked to see if the 2 clutches are compadable, I have been watching your progress on the other thread hoping to find out for myself.
Good luck, hope it all works for you.

Raux

no i dont think its the motowheels one.

i'll hold off for now on that.s it's about a 450 dollar investment and i'm running up on my parts budget limit

I too just looked through the parts catalog and checked out what you said.  I think at my 7500 mi service I am going to remove this panel.  I really can't foresee what damage it could do.  It is listed for my bike as a sound deadener.  I want to un-deaden the sound so we'll see what removing this does.  If anyone attempts this before me, please post the results of your efforts.  Thanks.
