This Is It - Thoughts? Impressions?

So we went and saw This Is It over the weekend and I've got to say it was really something. You can't help but feel sad that the Jackson family is using MJ's rep for as much earnings as they can. AEG did a really nice job though on the production. It was neat seeing a behind the scenes look at how much work went in to a real performance. Frankly, it was amazing to think that MJ was 50 years old and still at the top of his game. Perhaps the most amazing part to me was realizing that his voice had zero pitch correction and he sounded like the MJ from way back in the day. 

As a child, MJ was a hero of mine, in fact I can't remember any of my childhood friends who didn't want to be MJ. Watching This Is It was a real throw back for me and I can't deny that I was completely captivated by seeing him perform one last time. The show would have been amazing, groundbreaking, and a real parting gift to all of his fans. 

I'd like to keep this thread as clean as possible, so please keep your responses on topic and about MJ's final performance; not about his heavily debated history or reputation.

while i don't doubt for an instant that there's some jackson family money-grab going on, i think the documentary is more aeg trying to recover their investment on the now-canceled tour.

I thought there was a plan ti release a documentary and live video all along, but then he died and it ended up being just a rehearsal.

Either way, MJ always had a top notch band. His last guitar player is phenomenal.

It's been over twenty years since he produced something I'd spend my money on. Don't see how that changes just cause he kicked the bucket.

That's a good question. I think though that in this case there's a slight difference in how I might answer that question. Lets take the Rolling Stones for example, if it had been them making a film about Jagger after he died, would I have gone to see it? Probably not. I'm not a huge fan, but I do like some of their music.

In this case the performer is generally accepted as the King of Pop, so there's a certain natural level of curiosity that I believe would still compel me to see it. Combine that with the curious life that he led, the hiding, the secrecy, the color controversy, the fame, the dysfunctional family, the amazing talent, and I'd go further to say yes I'd see it.
