Surging issue

I think I might have a surging issue. I searched the tech board on surging and found a definition by Ducpainter "I describe it as a condition where the engine speed rises and falls at a steady throttle opening. It happens at cruising speeds..."
His definition describes exactly what is happening. I have an '07 695 close to 14,000 miles with upgraded ECU and termi's, open airbox, and an oil cooler. Warranty is expired.
So can you help me determine possible causes of this issue.
Some possible causes I thought might cause the problem is a loose chain or bad fuel filter.
Are these possibilities or what else should I be looking for?

Before anything else, check for vacuum leaks, throttle synch, CO trim and general tune up.  A loose chain will not cause engine surge, but can mimic surge if it is loose enough.

Thanks Howie!!
Right around 13000 miles (about 6 months ago)I had Ducati Austin bead blast the engine under warranty for the discoloration issue. They had to take the whole thing apart basically and put it pack together. It was at that time I purchased the upgraded ECU and Termi's. Everything has been fine since then, till now. I will check all the hoses. After that I will probably take it in to get looked at. I appreciate your help.

Bad valve guides can cause surging.

They have to be pretty bad though.
