Well, the folks in AUS have agreed to everything I wanted to take the job, so the only thing remaining are the details (ha).  The initial term is 2 years with a likely extension of 2 more years.

Recommendations please:

sell or store 2007 Lexus GS350AWD?
sell or store 2002 F150 4wd?
sell or store 2006 Goldwing and aluma trailer?
sell or store 2007 Ducati Monster 695?

I think we will try to rent our house, and put the furniture in storage.  There's just too many antiques to consider renting it as a furnished home.

Has anyone else done this kind of relocation?  I'm on uncharted (for me) ground here, so any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

PS- One of the guys on the goldwing forum offered to take care of the Lexus and the Ducati for me.  What a nice guy.  :)  I only have  to pay for gas, plates, and insurance.

EDIT: The Lexus is my company car (I own 50% of the company), and we have some payments remaining on it. It was purchased, not leased. All other vehicles are paid for.

Sell the cars and the wing, get someone to ultra-clean the duc,
then wrap it and shrink-wrap it with the toughest polyester you can find.
Store it behind the arc from Indiana Jones.
Get yourself a dirt tracker for the outback.

For 2 years, id sell all the vehilces unless you plan to make frequent trips back and youll need a vehicle. They'll just rot after two yeart of sitting.

I was out of pocket for 4 years in England, and when I got back, my vehicles were as good as the day I left. Just took a little time prepping them for sitting.

Unless you have a strong emotional attachment, I say sell all of them, they're just going to sit unused and depreciate. Take the cash now.

Sell... once you get to ausi-land you will want to stay. Most likely shack up with some hot blond and go ex-pat on us. But i do agree with the enduro buy... explore the outback on 2 wheels

The real question for me is where in AUS?

If you are in Melbourne we should hook up.
This place feels nice. Black S4RS, CRG Barend mirrors, vented clutch cover, gold clutch plate, gold pazzo racing levers, full 50m termi system, little carbon extras....oh yeah ...almost forgot....ban corporate coffee!

The job is in Brisbane CBD.  I'm looking on the west side - Jindalee, Toowong.  Also looking into importing my GW.  It's a 2006, so maybe the import GST won't be too bad.  It's set up just the way I want, so maybe importing it is the best option.

My wife loves to ride pillion, and we would have a whole new country to explore - it doesn't seem fair to explore it without her.

I would strongly suggest you look into importing it.  From what I have heard, it's not tremendously difficult to bring a vehicle over (not like Canada, where if it's not from the states, it's not allowed) and I'd bet good money it's cheaper to pay shipping, duty and any other charges than it is to get the same bike here.

Do the research, you might get happy.  If not, sell the stuff.  Australia's a big black hole: people come and lever leave (it costs way more to fly out than in, for one thing!).

Welcome to Brisbane.  =D

I'm close to Brisbane CBD, anything I can help you with, drop me a line.

I've spent the last 10 years rambling around the USA, a few months at a time in each place.  For mail, I use a Mailboxes Etc/UPS store.  I changed all my CC's and everything else to go to that address.  They'll collect your mail and forward it to you at whatever frequency you designate.  They'll weed out the junk mail if you ask.

There's a few people on the ozmonsters board that have come from the states to Aus, might be worth putting a few questions there too.

Not worth the hassle of storage/moving.
