When i bought my 2001 m900 Sie she came with full Termi's and a ecu for them. Is there a place where i can find a Dyno chart? Would be fun to know the numbers with termis compared to the stock exhaust and ecu.

G'day Adam

the above website is great. Also the Hordpower and Motorcycle Performance Services websites are good, no bullshit websites.
As Christmas present options you could consider a dyno tune, dialled cams, open air box, hi comp pistons, porting, etc [evil]. A cheap stocking filler present would be dialled cams, open air box and tuned ECU. I wonder if your model needs a piggy back device to tune the ECU or an Eprom chip. Someone will know.

DMF folk could suggest a reputable dyno operator in your area.

Have a Merry Christmas to you and all Forum folk. [drink]

DarkStaR: Thank you for the link, great site! Though i can't find anything about the setup i got on my bike.

koko64: Ecu was changed with the termis, so i guess it would be a tuned ecu already. One thing i been thinking about is sending the heads away for porting. Not sure if that is the right place to start  :-\

Look on the left side of heads, are they stamped W or V?

Ok, im not sure if i get you right here...  but the "vertical" cylinder head is stamped V2 and the "horizontal" cylinder head 1J

OK, you've got the good heads.

They will be improved with porting, but much better with larger valves such that the seats can be cut better.

High comp pistons are a good way to go.

Have searched and failed to find info on the different types of cylinderheads, and why some should be more suited than others to modify? please someone, enlighten me!  :)

The heads on your bike are a better start than some Monsters from 1996. See Brads article, " Not all created equal" in the 2-valve section of his web site, Bikeboy.org. Some Monsters had small valves with milder cams (dreaded "W" heads). Your cams are good and valves ok for street duties unless you have some cash to go for bigger performance again. The only 2 valve cams from Ducati that I know of with more lift and duration than yours are ironically, ST2 cams. From the sport tourer (go figure). Your bikes cam specs are real close to that, so no money to spend there. Read through Brad's 2 valve articles carefully, they give a real education. The knowledge Brad shares was earned through hard work and what appears at times to be frustrating experience. If you ever meet him buy him a beer.

Hi comp pistons, dialled cams, open air box and some porting will really give you joy. As long as the fueling is tuned right for the mods. My bike made a lousy 80.5 rwhp with such mods with the jetting all wrong. Had to go from 155 main jets to 165. It made rw80hp from 7000-8000 rpm without a 3-5hp bump on top of the graph due to being lean. [bang] CV carbs are a pain in the arse.
Bigger valves and some serious head work reducing the valves included angle are another step again, but you could probably find a late model ds1000 or 1100 for that extra money after you have sold yours. I love my old '95 model and would go the whole hog if I had the money because the bike fits me perfectly. With the money I spent on mine I could have bought an S4, but although I love the 4-valve motor ,the bike didn't fit me.

Good luck [thumbsup]

Only one thing to say about the people in this forum [bow_down] you're amazing, big thanks for taking your time and explaining for a beginner like myself.

After the holidays i will see what it will cost to get the heads ported and fitted with larger valves.

I have done some engine work before, mostly Audi engines, doing timingbelt changes, lifting the heads, mounting new cams and so on (pretty basic stuff). So I'm thinking to myself that it cant be that much harder to do on a bike  :P .

Put in a bid on a engine from a 1996 916 Biposto and they replied today, and offered me it for 1044$ i think i can get it down to 850-900$, thinking of buying it just to tear it down and renovate as a learing experience.

Hope you'll understand my English  [laugh]

Jeez Adam
You have more skill and experience than me! Half of my calls to Brad Black are to fix my stuff ups! Putting in high comp pistons would be breeze for you. Big valves and porting; looking forward to seeing the dyno figures when that's done.

I keep mentioning hi comp pistons because it is a "modernizing" upgrade for that engine which has low compression in the
range of the low 9's. I'm talking old fashioned, 1980's technology, low.The bike can pick up 8-10 hp thru the midrange with compression raised to around the high 10's to low 11's.
You won't have the timing/pinging problems us carbie guys have to deal with as long as you don't go past the low 11's (get a pro's advice). The benefit of a more progressive ignition curve for one.

Why don't you give Cal Cycleworks a call about the engine work. They contract out to a guy in Canada who it's claimed can get you across the 100hp barrier. Go on, do it for my vicarious pleasure! [evil]

Glad you appreciate the "special" way us Aussies have with the Queens English ;)

Cheers [drink]

Be prepared to spend well into $XXXX to get 100HP.  [beer]

Yeah it was like 4000-6000! Cheaper for the IE bikes (no FCR's or short manifolds to buy).
Better not buy that 4 valve donk and put $ towards the motor build!
Or buy a SF.

Wish I could build my motor like that..

It all started with wanting to look at a dyno chart.. [evil]
