What forks are these?

Hi Guys!

I found a set of Showa forks on eBay, seem to be Duc SBK forks (916??), but I'm not sure which type and year. I'm thinking about buying them if the price remains right. Could anyone shed light on what they are?

And how much are they worth? Would I have to change the wheel axle (shim) or front brakes? Does this set have any specific (dis?)advantages over going the GSX-R route?

Thanks a bunch!

Those are Superbike forks probably from a 916/748/996. I think your bike has the smaller diameter axle which isn't s big deal, just replace the wheel bearings with the correct size. You will also have to source the proper speedo drive as well.
The biggest problem your going to face is the diameter of the forks. The Superbike forks are 53mm on the top and 53mm on the bottom. You Monster top triple is 50mm and the bottom is 54mm. So you'll need to machine your top triple or replace it. Moto Wheels carries top triples for the Superbike conversion. The bottom can be shimmed to fit.

It may be a good idea to see how many miles are on the forks as well. If they are from an older bike you may need to overhaul them so that will have to be factored into the overall cost.

superbike forks are frequently too stiff on a monster, so plan to re-spring/re-build to your weight anyway

Not going to be from a 916, that has 65mm brake mounts, not 40mm and I think the 916 era had the 40mm mounts. My guess would be 748/996/998. Trip9's went radial.

Not all 999's wore radial calipers.  I am running 999 forks and calipers on my SC and they are axial mount.

Ah, part of Ducati's parts bin / remainder of the contract for forks I suppose then. Must have been an earlier 999, leftover parts from the 998 bikes would be my guess. That might have been the first year or so of the 999's, I can't remember all that well tonight.

True, but if he is heavier than a a supermodel carrying a sack of potatos then it may work out better for him.

The 916 did have the 40mm spacing so they are probably from a 996/748 because of the color of the fork lower. The 999/749 weren't all radial. Only the "S" and "R" models were radail.
