New life for crashed Arrows
«
on:
December 28, 2009, 06:19:51 PM »
Time off for the Holidays so I have been out in the shop working on the Monster and refurbishing the Arrow system I bought from Pasta Bobber.
Pulled the worst can(lower) apart, pounded some dents out of the sleeve and put it back together. I bit of sanding and here we are. I just mocked it up for now, waiting on exhaust gaskets and rivets, badge, etc.
Wondering if the cans should diverge toward the back or if I need to tweak the fit a bit. The Aluminum hanger is bent slightly and I may not have it just right yet.
How's the finish in the cans, yes, no?

Also, these will take DB Killers. Greg has them for $60. Do they need them? I leave for work at 6AM in a residential neighborhood...

Arrows DB killers are very effective.
If they're too quiet, you can just drill holes until you like it.
The cans should be parallel, so, yeah, you've got a bit of tweaking to do on the mount.
Or on the midpipe/crossover.
Finish looks good in the pic.

If they are too shiny for you, get some red scotch brite and dull them a bit.

Stock they are parallel, but I think they look pretty good diverging like they are.

I didn't realize, until seeing them up close, how big those cannons are. Can't wait to fire it up. Too bad we got 22" of snow last week.

i think you can polish it up and make them look nice.
Since you have the sleeve off now, id also do a high temp coat via spray can or powdercoat for cheap. look around your local shops, you could probably get the sleeves done for less than $25 bucks.

I had thought about powder-coat but there are still scratches that were too deep to remove. The combination of light color and DA sanding makes them hard to pick out from the photo but they are there. If I paint them black I'm afraid they will show more. Also, I wasn't sure about paint on Ti even with the rough surface, and I wanted to see how cheaply I could get the pipes on the road while still having a good look.

If I thought they could have looked that good again I would have kept them!
They look great so far. I agree that they should be spaced evenly from factory, but kind of like the way they spread out a little, looks cool. As for the finish, I'm a big fan of the scotch brite look, but whatever hides any leftover scratches works good too. I pm'd you on the hangers

Good work so far.
I have an extra hanger for sale if you are interested. I'll let it go for a good price.
I removed the dB killer from the bottom can, left it in the top, sound is perfect for me.
For reference, this is how my arrow system spacing looks:
