Do you speed on the HWY?

i usually cruise around 80-90mph on the open hwy. if there's traffic then i move fast enough to not  be the slowest thing out there since it's hard to be hit from behind if you are outpacing them.

i have tried to keep myself closer to 70, but the bike was unhappy. it's stable and smooth at 80. at 70 the revs are too high or too low.

on backroads i'm usually at 50-70. i do slow down in most neighborhoods though.

i've been stopped a few times, but they either didn't really have anything on me and gave me a ticket, or "i couldn't clock you because of the other cars in the way." i live in PA and like ducman said, they can't use radar in motion. that time i got a ticket for failure to obey traffic control devices. $25 fine that with add'l fees tacked on took it to $90 ???
i figured since i was doing around 90 through traffic i should just pay it and take my lumps.

Can't even think about speeding - I have one point left on my license.

I'm in the same boat "2 Points left" and had some cops pull me over the other day for street racing. No ticket issued for lack of proof.

Thing is all but 2 of my points have come from a car and not one ticket was over 65mph offense. Just POS 25mph roads that should be 45MPH roads. Basic Speed traps I guess.

I use the rabbit technique on the highway. The Rabbit is the fastest thing on the highway and I chase at 1mph slower. on the backroads I'm +10 - 15mph but do slow down in neighborhoods.

That HARD led system seems to be a great idea. [thumbsup] but where would you put that bulky RADAR?

In the map pocket of my tank bags, mostly. (It works surprisingly well there)  Although I did replace the front mount of my Triumph ST tank with a 3/4" ball to use one of these

Which can alternatively hold the radar or a GPS.  I actually went to the trouble of hard wiring all the V1 and H.A.R.D. stuff into the Triumph when I was riding it more.
I'm thinking of buying a new one now for the bikes/cars and having someone break the old one down and "stealth" mount it in the Monster.

I speed virtually all the time.  Then again, people in this town go 10+ over the limit all the time anyhow.  So I do between 10+ and 15+ with spurts of pure unadulterated speed here and there.

On the HWY it really depends on how fast traffic is going.  I'd say about 90% of the time I'm within 5-10 mph of the rest of traffic.  The other 10% is WOT up to the next pack of cars.  I speed as the traffic allows.  Sure I'll get up to 120+ and once a good bit more than that, but not if there are a lot of cars around.  You're moving so fast that the car may check their mirrors which are clear one second and the next second you're right there where they are moving.  (often without signaling)

As a general rule I usually do about 10 over the limit with bursts of speed usually about a half mile long.  Nothing sustained.

In general I'm not flyin' on the freeway.  That's about the lamest way to get a ticket possible.  And what are you people doing riding on the freeway anyways?! If I'm on the bike, I'm takin' some no-name billy goat trail to my destination.   [thumbsup]

Exactly!  [thumbsup]

I try like crazy not to speed, but the truth is sometimes when your all alone on a level stretch of road with no driveways, well speed can creep up on you.  Having said that, reckless driving endangers everyone and is totally irresponsible.  I've gone through my idiot stage of driving like raceday on public roads.  The whole speeding ticket, hiked up insurance, crash concerns are really not worth it.  Now, I go to a track where I can drive fast; its even encouraged.
