Author Topic: Canister-carbon? on my 750 monster...  (Read 1098 times)

Whilst removing my tank this afternoon to take to my painter for something more special (details later) I looked at the way the lower canister is plumbed from the bottom of my 1999 750 tank...seems, well useless.

In an attempt to save a bit of weight (thats what I told myself anyway) and have some better aesthetics on my open cafe themed build, can I just run two bits of hose from the in/out puts on my tank to a "T" vacuum connector and vent them into the atmosphere via a mini K&N filter? What does the canister really do? 

Just a newbie with thoughts and ideas that have certainly been done many times before....

That black box/can is a charcoal canister. It's there to catch overflow fuel as part of the emissions set up. And most get ditched the 1st day the bike comes home. Look in the tutorials section - there's info on removing said carbon canister.  Though you might want to double check after reading, as it's probably for a FI bike, and I don't know if there are any important differences when doing this for a carby.

Emissions canister captures gas vapors, for the most part useless and everyone takes them off unless you live in cali...but you can consider that a nice weather tax of sorts  Grin

damn yuu beat me, the FAQ is for a FI but there really isnt anything different going on there.
