anyone ever tapped the welded spools on an aluminum swingarm to add bolt on spools?  i likey the look but wonder about the strength if you were to tap that hole to say a 10mm.

What model are we talking about? I have an aluminum swingarm and the only weld in a spot appropriate for spools is for the brake caliper.

I 've tried the riv-nut spool fastening system and they sucked-Iwouldn't use them again.

I ended up going with the type that you weld on to the bottom of the swingarm

it's a 99 m900.  it has welded spools on it, but it looks like a prime spot to just tap that hole and add some larger aftermarket spools/sliders.

Sliders usually mount through the axles and there really isn't an advantage to going with larger spools.

Just use the spools on the bike (mine's the same bike).

Rhino Moto axle slider goes straight through the rear axle, and would therefore work better than spools for crash prevention. (no worries about tearing the slider/spool out of the threaded hole.)

I've got a dual sided steel swingarm.  I want to put spools on to make the bike a little more secure on the rear stand and make it a little easier to get on the stand.  Don't want to weld if I don't have to.  Any alternatives to Riv-Nut?  I've heard lots of folks have problems with them, usually solved by applying way more compressive force than recommended to seat them.  An axle slider might be nice but not ideal since it's worthless if you're taking the back wheel off.  Any recommendations?

If you're set on not welding which is really cheap by the way you could use the Riv Nuts but you should probably get a riv nut installer which you can find on airplane restoration sites

Just weld some mounts on though!
