yeah the HM 1100s is one serious bit of kit! forged wheels, monoblocks, ohlins.....it's a bike that's overkill...in a good way!

Thanks for the reply

I was checking Ducati website again for the differences between the M1100 and M1100S and noticed it's summed up to the front and rear suspensions, and carbon parts.   While in the Hypermotard family the 's' model also includes Brembo Monobloc calipers and lightweight Marchesini wheels.
Am I missing something here or is the difference between the two monsters (1100 & 1100S) is not as big as the difference between the two hypers (1100 & 1100S)?

Nope you're not missing anything... the Hyper S does get forged marchesinis and the 1100S Monster doesnt...

Th HM 1100S doesn't get an Ohlins fork, it uses a Marzocchi unit which is NOT in the same league as Ohlins.

Ohlins are worth the difference.

Slipons are expensive and without a proper ECU are just noise - littel performance at all.

A gentleman on the Ducati list just posted that he got a new 08 HM "S" model for $8990 or some such.  Same engine and money left over for the kit if you could find a deal like that.

Are there still deals on left over on 08 or 07 S4RS or  T's?  I've heard Ducati has given some very big incentives to dealers to get the "older" left overs out the door to make room for the new stuff.

Look well before buying.

Where I live, the S4RS have held their resale value better than the S4R.  Will that be the case again for the 1100 series?  If so, you can justify the extra expense as being an "investment or the future"   ;)

My suggestion would be to buy the 1100S and enjoy the upgraded parts and save up for a full Termi system.

I have a '07 S4Rs that I started out w, a stock exhaust system and then added Termi slip ons.

They were louder but I can't say that they made much of a difference in performance.

I then had a full Termi system w, DP ECU and Open Air Box and the performance was stunning.

Kinda like a turbo had been installed.

I went thru the same dilemma....  and came down on the side of 1100S.  You can always save and buy Termis later.... but if you buy the 1100 its not so easy to upgrade the suspension if you feel the need down the track.....
+1 and if the issue is between slip-ons and S dude, no contest.

and you will find suspension envy sucks.  :-\

It's a no brainer........... the S.

You WILL end up with an exhaust on it be it just a slip on or full system.

Also the S will inherently maintain a higher resale value whereas a full system to a standard, or and S for that matter, just makes it a bit easier to sell. Doesn't really add any value to the sales price... or minimal at best. IMO.

S for sure. On the hand, If I bought a Streetfighter today I would get the base and then send the forks to Ohlins and get the forks set up and a TTX shock for $2K.  http://www.ohlinsusa.com/us/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=101:oehlins-hyper-fgk-kit-and-ttx-shock-deal-for-hyper-sportbikes&catid=1:latest-news

the only reason im considering an 1100 is the sss and dry clutch, i dont track it, im a dialy rider, i say 1100. i just don't need ohlins suspension. I mean, im coming from a year on a 696. thats all ive ridden.

For what you say you're going to be doing, you don't NEED the S.  Everyone tells you "get the S...get the S" because more than likely they, themselves, bought the S and need to make themselves feel better for boning out the extra casheesh to be the coolest kid on the block with all the bells and whistles.  (No offense, guys.  I did it myself when I got my 07 S4RS.)  Unless you're going to be tracking it, and you said you weren't, the S just gives you bragging rights at the coffee shop along with a continual nagging feeling in your brain that you paid more than you really had to for the bike.  When the time comes for me, I'll think twice before I get an 1100S.

if you're one hell of a rider and push the limits the S would do you some good.  I myself have resisted the S model in my last three Duc purchases because I'm NOT that rider.  The stock suspension did just fine for me.  I personally would go for the sound and power increase but don't limit yourself to Termi only.
