So I've taken the basic MSF course twice over the past four years (the first was the initial, the second was a refresher), but I haven't done any advanced training.  The Army wants me to take both the Advanced MSF course as well as the Sport Bike Riders course.  I'm all for continued motorcycle education but was wondering which one I should take first.

Has anyone taken both of these courses and could explain a bit more about them for me?  I've already googled both of them for more detail but I wanted the opinions from some of you guys.

because they're tired of losing soldiers to moto accidents. I believe all branches require advanced training.

I'm in the same boat, but navy and officer side, and have to get the safety courses done (despite a 100% on my road test for endorsement).  in the end... both will be helpful.  You have to take both, so, just do it, whatever flavor your choose first.

Which one teaches you to drift?   [evil]

Yup...

At the not-so-nearby base to me, they have a large sign stating the recentness of moto-related accidents to compel all members to continually ride safe and not be hard-chargin' ballsy youngins.

USMC has the same requirement.  I'm overdue on training right now...good thing the bike is getting more bling put on or else I'm sure someone would make me spend a weekend in the freezing cold to get caught up.

well, most marines i know are obnoxious jacknuts that would probably ride their motorcycle into a semi truck on a dare (or for free beer), so i guess the classes make a little sense, but probably won't do much good for that type of mentality.   ;D

..... as well as the Sport Bike Riders course....

It's been a long while since I was anywhere near the service.....what is the Sport Bike Riders course?

The Sportbike Rider's Course is:

Also, did I mention that these courses are free because the military picks up the tab?  Makes sense because they are mandatory courses.

Take Lee Parks' "Total Control" class. It is excellent.

How different is the Total Control class from the MSF course?

Shit if they pay for it do as many as you can, just for fun!
Speed is always relative.

I never took MSF, but we had an MSF instructor in my Total Control class. She said there was absolutely no comparison - to the ARC, no less.
