I took the belts off to do the valve adjustment. I have a few questions because I'm not sure if this is right.

1. Does it matter if the piston is at TDC when you adjust the valves with the belts off?

When I line up the middle cam to the dot on the engine and line up the top cam with the correct dot, with the piston at TDC I only feel slack in the exaust valve? Does this sound correct?

If the belt is off it won't affect the adjustment, but the valve can fall into the cylinder....that would be bad.

The dot puts the horizontal cyl at TDC, so if you're checking the vertical that sounds right
