Is it me or does new grips require a new throttle tube as well?  I went to put my new grips on this weekend and everything went fine until I got to the throttle side and realized something's not right.  It could also be that the grips are incorrect.  I got them free with my new Pazzo's levers.  Anybody?

If you are talking about the M1100 (and I assume the 696 is the same), the throttle tube has a raised rib on the outside end of the tube and the OEM rubber grip is molded to fit this rib.  This helps keep the grip from coming off the tube.  If I recall correctly, there are also ribs running parallel to the tube to resist the rubber grip twisting.  I recently replaced my grips with some that don't require glue; I simply used a utility knife to carefully cut the rib at the end of the tube down flush to the tube.  The grip then went on with help from a little soapy water which I also used on the left grip.  BTW, grips usually come in pairs with one a little larger for the throttle tube.

Grip glue or hairspray for new replacement grips

(what do you mean 'incorrect'? is the hole too small?)

What I meant by the grips being "incorrect" is that unlike the stock ones, they don't have grooves for the ribs at both ends and the end of the grip that cable connects to doesn't wrap around the plastic.  I'm going off of memory at the moment so I may have to revisit when I get back in town tomorrow afternoon to elaborate.

Hairspray here as well. The first time I rode mine in heavy rain, the left grip slipped almost all the way off. No problems since the hairspray, even in pretty heavy downpours.
