What's with the holding of the brakes?

I know you do that on a motobike, but in a car.....

I thought you just mashed down the gas and if you have the power......the wheels spin?

I think they are trying to do a brake stand. Drag cars do this to heat up the tires but they usually have a line lock that only engages the front brakes. I am guessing that these guys have automatics so dumping the clutch isn't an option. But if you are holding the brake down too hard, the back wheels don't turn.

I thought a burnout was what that Ram tried to do?

Burnouts in a manual transmission car are difficult, but do-able.  (AMHIK  ;))  The key is to get the rear wheels spinning using medium brake pedal pressure as you fully release the clutch and feed the gas pedal.  Once your tires are burning, you can add pressure to the brake pedal again to hold the car from moving forward.  Yes, this takes "extensive" practice and automatic transmissions are much easier.

The guy in the Corvette Z06 burned out his clutch attempting his burnout - that's the nature of his video (and the source of the smoke [laugh]).  He's pushing all 3 pedals, though he clearly held the brake a little too hard and his friends either didn't notice (or didn't care?) that his wheels weren't spinning.  Rookies.   [coffee]

The guy in the Ram has a 6-speed manual transmission, too.  He dumped the clutch (maybe even in second gear to get more smoke/wheel speed), probably was NOT holding the brake, and he apparently got a little too much wheelspin and gathered too much speed.  That's a damn funny video.   [laugh]

I love how the guy in the Neon SRT4 threw a slug right into the hood - see how that thing spiked up?   Classic.  [laugh]  [laugh]
