my olive oil co.

Italian?  yes.
family owned? yes
related to Corleone Family? no
Did you ever make anyone "an offer they couldn't refuse?"  I'm in sales and sadly, buyers have the gonads to actually tell me no.  unbelievable!
samples? sorry, just for me and my peeps.
group buy? sure.  tomorrow at 1pm EST, everyone go out to your Kroger, Albertsons, Safeway, Walmart, favorite store and buy your favorite major, national branded, Italian o.o.   ;D

Quick lesson:
extra virgin (technically, these are all cold press/first press): best on salads or dipping.  flavor is wasted once you heat/cook with it.
pure/classico: great for sauteeing, stir frying, heating etc.
light:  this is only light in color and taste!  do not mistake this as fewer calories (like light beer).  still has all of the same wonderful health benefits as the others.
olive oil is like wine.  unless you get some really bad stuff, or pay through the nose for super-premium (i have that too), it really is just a matter of taste.  there are subtle differences and it's a matter of personal preference if you like something fruity, peppery, fragrant, bitter, aftertaste, etc.

the light/extra light, etc has the highest smoke point of the olive oils.
this makes it suitable for baking as a substitute for vegetable oils, just use about 3/4 of the volume of veg oil.

Really?

That is interesting.

I figured a "heavier" oil would smoke higher than a lighter. But then again, that is based off nothing other than what my brain processed.

My grandfather was left an olive farm from his parents I think somewhere around Naples I`m not sure. From what my mother tells me he handed it over to the workers since he was in the US. They use to get the first batch of oil delivered to there house every season. This was years ago so I guess it wasn`t about selling it for the money. If I get the name I`ll let you know.
