Fuel pump issue

So, when I go to turn on the bike (01 Monster 900) this morning the familiar sound of the fuel pump turning on is non-existent. Sure enough, the bike won't fire up. I have the feeling it's something easy to fix. I had a starting issue last week and it turned out to be a little corrosion on the starter connection which just needed to be cleaned.

if nothing literally happens when you press on the start button, I would check fuses, connection, starter solenoid first.

make sure the plug under the tank is securely connected as that does both the fuel light and the pump. If yes, to that, check the fuse.

Plug is nice and clean, fuse is good. noticed that the wire from the tank goes into what i am told is the starter solenoid. Another wire on the same little harness goes from the starter solenoid to the starter button. It was the starter I was having trouble with last week. Nothing when I hit the starter but I could hear the fuel pump coming on. Cleaned out the connection to the solenoid and it worked for a few days but now the situation is reversed. Starter works fine but the fuel pump is not turning on and the bike won't fire up (obviously). I hope this is a stupid little problem that I can fix myself fairly quickly. It sucks not being able to ride, Im having to take the suck-ass, expensive train to school an hour earlier every morning.

Are you getting voltage to the fuel pump?  I believe it is the brown/white wire. If you have voltage, the problem is the pump or the wiring to the pump from the low fuel light sensor.  If not, go to the fuel pump relay, remove it and jump terminal 87 (brown/white wire) to terminal 30 (red/blue wire).   With the key on, if the pump no runs, the relay is at fault or the relay is not being triggered.  The relay is triggered by terminal 85 (purple/black wire) and terminal 86  (brown wire).  The fuel pump is enabled through the computer.

i had the same prblm ( i have a 07 695m), turns out it was the wiring into the tank (the wires were not soldered correctly and were lose, I removed (carefully) the protective epoxy that the wires were encased in; on the fuel tank side (pretty easy cause it was falling apart) cleaned up the wires re soldered em and re encased em in a epoxy capable of withstanding fuel,and presto!! spent about 60 bucks for the epoxy and replacement parts. (beats 1200 for a new fuel pump) if anything its worth a look.i couldnt tell the wires were loose until i got rid of all the epoxy/protective case the wires were in. good luck

I had the same problem with my 2006 S2R1000.  The hot wire to the fuel pump had a bad solder joint at the electrical feedthrough inside the gas tank.  I had to diagnose the problem myself (Thanks ridingrabbit for the tip) because the local shop tried replacing the fuel pump, and that didn't solve the problem.  I dug out the solder joint with an exacto knife, resoldered the wire, and sealed it up with JB Weld.  The bike is running like new.  Hooray!  I had to ride my dirtbike/car to work the past three months.

no problem-o btw I still have a lot of that epoxy (2 stage) left over from my fix just sitting in my garage. anyone who's doing a similar repair let me know ill sell it for a few bucks or a 12 pack of beer!!!
