I have acquired a 2005 999 as a track and sometimes street bike.  I have got the suspensions all sorted so up next is the exhaust.  I am a little frustrated with the exhaust selection available for this bike and being a previous monster owner, off the shelf stuff isn't going to work  Cheesy

What I was thinking of doing is getting a Mivv Suono <http://www.mivv.it/en/contenuto_statico.asp?cs=152> and having it installed where the stock bread box is, I will also install a power commander to sort out the fueling.

My question - Do you think there is a problem running a 2-1 system on a 999.  Will the single exit be too restrictive?

Many thanks,
KNG

the single up pipe after the join on the 999 termi full systems and the 1098 systems hurts midrange it seems.  this also seems the happen on the earlier aprilia milles.

after a single pipe that length i don't think muffler size or quantity really matters.  the zard is an unequal length header set with a flowing collector that is in and out so to speak and it works very well on a 999.  the zard 1098 system is basically the same as a 916 style header set, and it fills in the midrange.

you could try running twin headers and joining them at the muffler like a zard, then test either a single muffler or twin mufflers on the back of the collector.  maybe a large diameter single muffler, although that may get very loud.  oval tube like the can?  two mufflers doubles the sound absorption area, which may be as important point as any.

if it's a look you're after then function will follow form anyway.

i think 2-1 became popular as they were light for racing and compared to the std systems of the 70's they had a flowing crossover instead of a H style balance pipe, so made more power and seemed better.  but adding a second muffler to a 2-1 works better again.  esp when the out pipes are the same size as the in pipes and the cross over 1.5 to 2 x the area of the single header.  which also may coincide with the intro of 4v motors in the 80's that had higher power outputs per cc sort of thing, as the exhaust had to flow more.
