Anyone ever buy a used tire for their bike?
Thinking of it as budget is tight now.
Found one and will check it out soon in person. Not tracked but from a parted out duc. Got lots of thread.
I realize tire is crucial and it can have drastic effect on ones life.
What you guys/gals think ?

i dont care if its used, as long as it has tread left and it isnt old.
If the rubber isnt cracking or is extremely hard then id say go for it.
if it comes down to buying a new one. you could get a regular pilot road for $130 shipped and it would last you a long time. just dont buy a shinto tire. that is stragith up BS.

I have not done it - but a local and former board member Bug always was running take offs from track days and such. He never had issues with that method, beyond the shortened life.
But what are the circumstances of the part out? I'd want to have a good look at the tire in person before making a decision.

I used to run take-off exclusively and never had any problems. I did it once on the Monster w/out any issues. Since nobody tracks their bikes with Pilot Powers that's no longer an option for me

Done it with no problems. I had good luck buying practically new stuff(under a few hundred miles) from people who wanted different rubber on brand new bikes. You can find people selling basically brand new current year stock take-offs on eBay.

Ive run all kinds of race take offs and street tires. I've even run a DOT race on the front of my 675 with a pilot power rear and while the rear didn't last that long, the front seemed to just go forever (and stuck just fine) I'll also mix brands. And I'm still alive

I once bought a set of lightly used Pilot Roads for the 695 for a mere 100 bucks. They lasted almost 10k miles. Not Bad I say.

Picked the tires up. Look good. Will get them mounted up Sunday and see how it goes. (darn it, i can't ride to watch the race at mid-ohio tomorrow with my bald tires. too much gravel there to risk a flat. I will have to drive )
