I'm looking for a speaker system that can either be hooked up to an MP3 player of sorts or a laptop.

it would help if they were battery powered as i have no electrical source or generator.

looking for something that has good sound quality at a decent price and that is fairly compact.

thanks in advance.

We have one of these:

Works great.  Sound quality is really good given the size.

Runs off a/c, 2-AA batteries, or a car adapter.  Has a std headphone size jack or connect thru bluetooth.  I think you can even power it off USB port.

Forgot...Also works as a speaker phone.

I laughed at B when it showed up  "Not another toy for your Droid."   Needless to say it is the most useful thing he has bought for that phone.

it's for a tailgate area so it will have to compete with a bunch of other noise.

i did see the little speaker yuu, i just don'tt hink it's going to be loud enough.

If you drive the nicest car in the neighborhood, work in a cash business, and don't pay taxes, you're either a preacher or a drug dealer...

the looks pretty cool - thanks for pointing the one out DesmoDiva! cheap enough too

I have one of these: http://www.tivoliaudio.com/product.php?productid=318&cat=264&page=1
But I only paid $80 for it. great sound quality but a bit base-y.  More for talk radio than music but it's still better than a ton of the crap that is out there. It has a battery good for a couple hours with an aux port for MP3s/iphones/etc.

I have a Cambridge Playdock that can run on batteries or AC and has a sub...sounds really good for the size

I have a "camping speaker" in my garage for when I'm out there. It runs on 3 AA batteries and isn't that loud at all. However, it suits my needs.

You might want something with a little more "oomph"

I just run my I Pod through the Car stereo. The cars battery has an engine to recharge it when it gets low. Comes in very handy, it also moves the car around to different tailgate locations. In my car there is an 8 speaker Bose system that makes a lot of sound, If you are planning to have your tailgate party around here I could set it up for you.  [cheeky]
