More bad news

Hope this isn't a derby. Just saw this on cyclenews.com on their main page. Wow, just wow. Really sad day. I can remember the last issue of Cycle like it was yesterday. Great magazine in it's day! Now another one bites the dust. Damn I've been reading Cycle News for decades. Sad sign of the times.

Worst dove hunt in 20 years. I got make the beast with two backsing skunked... zip, nada, zero. I shot at like 3 birds and they were all 10-20 yards outside the effective kill zone for my 20 gauge. Even with hot 1 oz loads. I was desperate. Had two better shots but waved off due to safety. I would have peppered the shit out of two buddies had I shot.

Been going to my friend's ranch north of Brownwood, TX every opening day for 25+ years. A group of my friends that have known each other for 35-45 years goes every opening day. It's my favorite "holiday" of the year! It's in a really good area, just for some weird reason all the local dove disappeared this year. We went 2 weeks ago to mow and plow up the fields we hunt in and didn't see shit then either. Bad omen!

Thankfully others shot a few and we had enough birds for everyone to have some for dinner that night. But after the shitty opening morning and afternoon hunts I didn't even go out on the 2nd morning. Fixed breakfast for everyone while guzzling Bloody Marys. I was a lot more productive doing that! Waiting for a good cold front to drive down some northern birds.

Maybe I should just change this thread title to Dove Hunting!!
