slip ons?

ok again..  I am new to the bike scene but been around cars since i was a kid. When someone says "slip ons" is that bike talk for a cat-back exhaust system?

I dont think I need a full exhaust just yet, matter of fact I know I dont need the power (yet). But my bike is way to quiet. Should I just go ahead and get some Arrow or whatever brand I want slip ons for now and then later can I add the rest of the system?

That is basically correct. On many bikes it is simply a bolt-on replacement for the factory muffler. However on most it involves cutting the midpipe or replacing it, but not the headers. For the most part it is for sound and looks, with little performance benefit. On many bikes the performance is actually worse.

ok so I could get slip ons for now and then get the rest of the exhaust system later on right?

One important thing to ask - Which monster?

For any of the 'classic' DSS monsters, the vat majority of people don't worry about a full system 1) because they don't have the ugly, heavy 'udder' 2) selections are very limited and what's around can be hard to get.

Slip-ons, will do just that - slip on in replacement of the stock muffler set up.  Depending on the set up, they may take more or less coxing, moving of other stuff etc.  I have low Termis on my 900 and the come on and off basically like the stockers.  I had Sil High mounts on my 620 and they were slung from a bracket attached to the frame, and the S-pipe had an attachment to the rearsets.   Also highmounts for DSS monsters mean getting rid of the charcoal emissions canister.

One other alternative is the Quat-D exbox - which is a stand alone full system sort of thing. 

But long story short - yes you can just put slip ons now and worry about other alterations later... or you can core your stock cans for free and get a lot more sound.
