Some of his quotes from MNF.

"If 'ifs' and 'buts' were candy and nuts, wouldn't it be a merry Christmas?"

On teammate Walt Garrison: "If you needed four yards, you'd give the ball to Garrison and he'd get you four yards. If you needed 20 yards, you'd give the ball to Garrison and he'd get you four yards."

His comment when Vice President Spiro Agnew visited the Monday Night booth: "I didn't vote for you, but you do have a nice suit on."

On playing for Tom Landry: "He's such a perfectionist that if he were married to Dolly Parton he'd expect her to cook."

Sad news indeed. I remember my Dad taking me to see him play for the Cowboys when they played at the Cotton Bowl on the Texas State Fair grounds in Dallas... pre Texas Stadium in Irving, TX days. He was a good old East Texas boy born and raised in Mount Vernon just north of where my farm is. I remember he had a stand out career as SMU's quarterback. I'm not old enough to remember but I think he was All American at SMU. I'll have to check. I also remember driving by his house on Preston Road when we went to church on Sunday. Never could get my parents to stop, I always wanted to ring his doorbell and ask for an autograph! [thumbsup]

But I think he was best pairing up with Cosell. What a pair those were on Monday Night Football!! [laugh] Meredith would crack me up. Had that down home East Texas humor. Funny guy. Good guy.

For sure a sad loss. Great player and commentator but even a better character! [clap] [bow_down] Don't make 'em like that anymore.
I plan to list the Federal Gov't. as a dependent on my next 1040 tax filing!

I have flying honey badgers and I'm not afraid to use them!

The fact that flame throwers exist is proof that someone somewhere said "I'd sure like to set those people over there on fire but I'm just not close enough to get the job done."

CONFIDENCE: the feeling you have right before you understand the situation.

That's a good article. It's better/longer than the one in today's on line Dallas Morning News.

Dandy Don was a hoot. Didn't know he'd been in Santa Fe for so long.

NBC Evening News with Brian Williams did a real nice story about Dandy Don to end their broadcast tonight. Loved seeing and hearing clips of him make the beast with two backsing with Cosell and singing "Turn Off The Lights, The Party's Over"!! [laugh] The guy really set a whole new bench mark for athletes moving from the playing field and into broadcast. All those ex-coaches and players (and for that matter even ex-NASCAR/motorcycle racers, etc.) who now are broadcast commentators owe him a big thanks for opening that post playing, driving, riding, etc. career door. He changed the way sports was broadcast, as well as everyone on the early MNF crew. Like they said on the news, Monday night at the movies and restaurants was kinda dead because everyone was home watching Gifford, Cosell and Dandy Don.
