monster 750 dark

« on: December 13, 2010, 06:25:47 PM »

this has always been in the back of my mind but i never bothered to investigate.

i have suspicion that one of the previous owner replaced the engine on the bike.  any possible way to check this?  i wasn't aware the engine has a VIN stamp.  i know there is an engine no, but is it supposed to match to the VIN in any way?

anyone know if the color of the engine covers (timing belt, stator) are different on the dark models vs reg models?

also, is there a way to check if the engine is a 600/750/900?

thanks.

fyi, i have a 2000 750 dark, and  yes, i may just be paranoid

There is an engine stamping # on the L side of the engine below the alternator cover and if you know how to read it, it will give the engine size.

Another way is like the above post says, just shoot a couple of pics and we'll be able to decipher it from those...

What gives you the idea that the motor was changed out?

darks were the same as regulars as a matter of fact most of the 2v's are basically the same engine with minor differences. Throw up a pic is pretty easy to tell.

Generally
900's are dry clutch w/ oil cooler
750's have an oil cooler
600's have neither
