Yes, distortion on SS can be a problem. I've even had to clamp parts "out of square" so that they would be square after welding. Some of that is fitment. Welding is like painting, if you don't take the time to do the body work correct, the paint job won't be any good. I believe about 90% of good welding is making sure the parts fit correctly. If you're welding gaps, you're asking for trouble. If you tack something up and go at it like a madman, usually something bad happens. I just bought a Tig welder with pulse, that should help minimize distortion also.
But you got me thinkin about how to build a big oven Grin

I used to work at a fabrication/machine shop in Ooltewah, TN, where Lightspeed bicycles is (was?) located.  We did lots of work for those guys and I've seen what happens to titanium bicycle frames when they're improperly stress relieved.  It's a shameful waste of beautiful titanium.   Cry

I seem to remember stress relieving temperatures for titanium alloys to be somewhere in the 900° to 1100° Fahrenheit range.  You just have to be sure to keep it below the annealing temperature.  I don't remember those guys doing any pre or post treatment other than stress relief in an oven.

Good luck!

The Porsche was a two year project. A year and a half to restore it and about 6 months to get it sold. I am getting ready to tear the S4RS apart and build a Ti frame. I'm picking up a few more items for the shop this weekend but I am getting close to having everything I need.

Don't tear it apart!   What a make the beast with two backsing waste of a good motorcycle.  Swing a leg over it and ride it.  It's one of the best motorcycles ever sold to the public. Can  you say ....... Termi kit, 14 tooth sprocket, a good set of tires and a steering damper?

Ride that bike. Make a Ti frame for an old Triumph or something.   Cry

I sold one just like this one w, 7 miles on it.

I would have loved to have kept it but I got the 1098 R in it's place plus I already had it's twin.

Like LA said, Full Termi Exhaust, open Airbox, DP ECU and a 14 tooth Front Sprocket and the bike will give you all you want !

I have 3 bikes now and no room for a 4th or I'd like to have another S4Rs.

Great find.

With the few full on rebuild threads we have I am surprised so many are shooting down the idea of  Ti Frame.

Well said. I don't know make the beast with two backs all about welding but I would love to see you build a Ti frame just to learn something about it  chug
