M695 surging/stalling advice ... service in Chicago?

Hey Everyone,

A friend has a friend in Chicago who has a Ducati that's pissing them off. A few texts and a few missed calls... 2 months later, turns out friend of friend has a 2007 Monster 695 that makes riding really difficult. As they described it, when making turns in 3rd or 4th gear, the bike either surges a bit (upsetting) or stalls (also upsetting).

Is there a known recipe for this? Like "oh yeah, get a Fat Duc, do this ______________ and you're riding with a big smile".

They've got a mechanic friend helping them out, but he's more into the vintage scene. And honestly, I can give folks ideas about things to try, but that just won't work in this situation. Hence why I'm asking if there's a known set of things to look for. Also if anyone knows a good tech in Chicago city area who is versed with modern Monsters, that'd be great too. Their dealer wasn't much help and then they closed down.

Thanks!
Chris

all I can recommend is that there must be an air leak of some sort, upsetting the sensors for airflow. This is just a guess, and a smoke test would probably be helpful.

Is this a recent or ongoing issue?  Assuming the bike is still running closed loop and everything else checks out (base settings good, all sensors operating correctly etc.) I would go for a DP computer.

Hi Howie, thanks for replying. Yes, this is constant. They actually had TWO of them with adjacent VINs and both did it. The other one got fired. This M695 is loved and hasn't been fired yet and gets loving thoughts while its owner has to ride the harley instead. :P Ok. Yeah. The suck is that they don't really have or know someone to help them work on their bike.

Any thoughts about a PCIII ?

If they can get a PC III that will allow it to run in open loop.  At this point I am stale on that info.  Maybe a call to Dynojet is in order.  A Fat Duck should help also, since the problem (assuming all else is good) is closed loop.

Oh, if they go the DP route someone will need to set TPS and base CO.  That means either a dealer or someone with a VDST.  Know a good vendor ;)
