Nope, not another "help I lost my red key, is that bad?" thread...

I can't seem to find the damn key for the 97 m750 I'm fixing up. Any alternatives to taking the lock barrel out and down to a locksmith? (Well, besides putting my two magpie/key swiping children up for adoption)

Thanks!

How much is the lock smith going to cost?

Might be cheaper to get a used part w/ keys.

Is keyless, or generic key switch (hidden) an option for you?

Drunken Monkey

Thanks.

Technically, I could steal all the barrels off my m900 and go that route with my other bike. But that depends entirely on how much a locksmith charges. I 'charge' myself $30 / hour for my time, so if the locksmith is $100 vs 4 hours of labor on my part, the locksmith 'wins'

You could buy a new switch with a key.  :P
Then you're still hosed for the fuel and seat latch.

My other bike has an aftermarket gas cap, and I'm 'barely' using the ignition switch (just two wires going through it for the motogadget m-unit)

So technically I could replace the seat latch with something else on my other bike (who's gonna steal a seat?) and I'd have all the parts needed for the swap.

Still, that's some labor. Anyone know how involved a locksmithing job it is? And can't a dealer give the needed numbers to a locksmith to make a new key? Or something?

Dont ask me how i know this but the fuel tank barrel is VERY easy to pick with a 20 dollar lock pick set.

Just take the cap off and get it to the locksmith. You'll save money since he wont physically have to come out to do it.

I just took the barrel in to the locksmith. $40 later the new keys she made me work great
