Pessimist is the way to go...an optimist can never be "pleasantly surprised".   ;D

that is generally my POV...expect the worst for to be prepared and then get the best in return.

i like to consider myself a realist "it is what it is"

but, to be honest i am such a pessimist that i dont even like the glass containing said liquid unless it is a really good beer or hard liquor!.

fixed it for ya Mr Realist...

It could be that my pessimism about optimism doesn't stop me from be optimistic about pessimism being the better point of view. But I doubt it.

sac

it that like being a conformist to noncomformity?

What I really think is that if you are willing to define yourself in such broad terms you are a make the beast with two backsing retard. If you have chosen to view everything in life in a positive light you are an idiot. If you are view everything as a potential disaster you are equally nutty.

The question is false. The poll is stupid. And this entire conversation is a waste of time. We might just as well argue whether yellow or blue is the better color.

While their judgment will be colored by a zillion and one factors including one's current mood, most people judge situations individually. NOT using some ridiculously broad ethos of "optimism" or "pessimism." To do so would be moronic.

I vote boobies.

sac

sounds like pessimism to me...except for the voting for boobies part!...that is always optimism talking!

Exactly. This is why I asked to see the glass first. Till I see and measure the glass, I can not answer the question. Ergo, even asking the question is a fallacy.

You're gonna need one of these.

I am a realist...which probably makes me a cynic

Any of you engineers should know that, unless we're talking about the vacuum of space, the glass is always full -- just not necessarily with tasty beverage. Does it really take a liberal arts major to point that out to ya?

And this, also.

By hammer and hand all arts do stand.

I'm an engineer. The glass is twice the size it's supposed to be.   ;)

I'm an engineer too. Give it time...you'll be a pessimist eventually!  [laugh]

Exactly.

Boobies, please!

You're an old realist, which makes you a cynic.  Young realists are still pessimists  ;D

I worked in the Russian arctic back in the 90's and, on a very cold and bleak day in mid-winter, my interpreter passed on this bit of old Russian wisdom regarding optimism.....

In Russia, the pessimist will tell you that things can't get much worse while the optimist will assure you that they can.
