Looking to purchase one in the next 6 months or so.  No rush, waiting on the right car.

All of porsche experiances have been with early to-mid 80's 911's, some 914 stuff, and a few early 356's.

3.2, G50/50, and that jazz....

I know there are a few porsche guys on here...looking for tips, or contact info to discuss the pluses and pitfalls of this "vintage" car.

Mid-90s....

So will that be the air-cooled 993, or the water-cooled 996?

I've limited experience myself. Just trying to ask the standard questions. My only Porsche driving is a 356.

I got to drive a 912 for awhile

I'd rather have a Kia

I had an old 911 Targa. The previous owner was buying his uncle's gray market 930 turbo at the time. It was fun for a while until my wife and I parked it at the far end of the parking lot when going to a movie. We came out after the show only to find that some rat make the beast with two backs had gone out of their way to "key" it from the front bumper to the back bumper! [bang] Down to the metal! I cussed at the top of my lungs for 10 minutes and had I been armed I probably would have shot anyone I thought looked guilty!! >:( Not the cars fault at all. But after it was repaired I sold it and bought a Miata. No one ever messed with it.

End of threadjack. I'm still pissed two decades later. [roll]
I plan to list the Federal Gov't. as a dependent on my next 1040 tax filing!

I have flying honey badgers and I'm not afraid to use them!

The fact that flame throwers exist is proof that someone somewhere said "I'd sure like to set those people over there on fire but I'm just not close enough to get the job done."

CONFIDENCE: the feeling you have right before you understand the situation.

I had a '92 SC Carrera, desert sand w, chocolate brown leather, a '95 Carrera , black w, palomino leather, and a '97 mars red w, palomino leather.

These 993 air cooled 911s were as I remember trouble free .

The were weekend only cars.

I put very low mileage on them as they were part of a collection.

I also had a '99 Carrera but it was a 997 and water cooled.

It was quieter but just as nice .

My favorite of the 4 was the '95 as it has 3 piece Speed Line wheels.

Since I didn't drive any of these 911s for any significant amount of miles I can't say much as to there nuances and long term reliability.

They were very much fun to drive but significant monies were lost in the eventual sale of the cars even though they were all in excellent condition.

Parts are very expensive and Labor rates are well over $100 an hour from what I understand  .

My last 911 was a 2005 911 Carrera S. Black / black leather  w, yellow Calipers and CCCB brakes.

A finer car it would be hard to imagine. Had every option as I remember.

Went out the door for a little more than $113,500.

Never owned one, but got the opportunity to drive a 1996 911 coupe and it was absolutely wonderful. I was suprised by how great the engine sounded. I don't think you can go wrong with that car. Its a classic/going to be considered a classic. Love the mid 90s body style, its on my short list.

That would make it a 996, no?

Le Pirate

was it in 97 that they did the special edition turbo? I can't remember, besides the fact that it was a silver turbo with red leather interior  [drool]

I still, to this day, lust over that car.....

Yes , the '97 911 Turbo was a killer car.

I believe there was a Turbo S.

Pretty expensive in '97.

Also one of my favs. from a curb appeal factor.

Great wheels.
