ditching the digital dash...I can't take it anymore

Ok, now that I've decided to keep my 1100, I'm determined to do away with the stock digital dash for something more traditional.  It's my understanding that there's a way to do which involves relocating the circuit board somewhere on the bike (due to the inability to do away with the immobilizer).  I've been kicking this around for a year or so and it's time to get off my ass and make it happen.  Has anyone actually gone through with this on an 1100 or 696 that is willing to offer up some lessons learned?  If not, does anyone have any suggestions on the best way to go about it?  I don't have much electrical experience so anything that will reduce the learning curve would be greatly appreciated.

obligatory horror shot;

while we wait for duck-stew to chime in ill say that ive looked into it for my S2R, as you have no electrical experience I wouldn't attempt it (I would rate my ability at mild-moderate and im pretty worried about doing it).

if you dont want the immobilizer you can flash the ECU and get rid of it or go with a different ECU altogether.

Raux

agreed, several places can now reflash the 1100 ECUs to get rid of the immobilizer.

On another board I think I had heard of one guy that had done the swap, but can't remember details.

Wow, seeing that photo was almost as bad as getting punched in the face.  What a freaking mess.  The last time I looked into this nobody had the ability to reflash the ECU yet.  Is it true then that if I have my ECU reflashed I would then be able to get rid of the digital dash and opt for a entirely different speedo/indicator light set up all together?

Not sure if they can do it but my S2R800 ECU was reflashed by DesmoPorsche aka Houston Superbikes.  I would shoot them an e-mail or give' em a ring to see if they can do it.

You can buy the hardware to reflash bike(rexxer, protune) or send your ecu to be reflashed to a few companies(I know desmoworks can).

Once you have the immobilizer gone, you can probably rewire it all.... Its an interesting project, and would be sweet to do, but if you mess up it could cost you a lot of money

Looks like I'll start by sending the ECU off for a reflash.  With the immobilizer no longer an issue, I can do away with the circuit board from the stock dash entirely....yes?

I would double check to see if rexxer actualy can do away with the immobilizer. Ung and I were the first ones to get the rexxer unit and at that time this was not an option. They may have come up with a way to do it, but I'd check it out first.

I don't believe anyone has the ability to remove the immobilizer on these.  The Immobilizer isn't integrated with the ECU as it was in the marellis. You don't "marry" the ecu to the key anymore, because the ECU is separated somewhat from the ignition/dash.  I don't know the details exactly, but it's not as simply to stop.
