new tank for S2R 1000 is here

I have read many threads re : the tank issue so excuse me for starting another . All I want is opinions on how to best keep this tank like new . Is there a concensus on use of Sta-bil or another fuel additive ? Should I consider , if possible , having a coating applied to the inside of the tank before installation ? Is it best to keep tank full while sitting ? The tank will be installed by a local dealer .

i'm going to coat mine with the caswell kit as soon as it warms up...my tank is used but shows no sign of deformation yet.....seems like the best insurance as of now

You could spend days reading the posts on the plastic tank threads. Personally I think Ducati should just offer metal replacement tanks and be done with it. I use Sta-Bil in all my bikes due to today's shitty gas. No proof it has helped my 2 plastic tanked Ducatis. They both have swollen a little bit but not nearly as bad as others I've seen and read about it. Maybe it's helped some... maybe?

Caswell Coating is the only way to keep it from happening again. I agree with Buck about the shitty gas but I use Star Tron and the bike runs so much better with it.

Coat it. Relatively cheap insurance IMHO
I just did mine on my new replacement tank.

When you coat it, take the opportunity to change your fuel filter while the pump is out of the tank. There is a great thread in the "How to" section. I used the NAPA filter suggested for under $4.
Also, here is a thread listing tips on doing the Caswell coating. I wish I had seen it before I did mine. It's a bit of a pain in the ass but not difficult and worth the time and effort

You should only allow grain alcohol and rainwater in your tank so as to disallow anything to sap and impurify all of your precious tankly fluids.

Thanks for the input and especially the caswell how-to thread . The dealer is letting me coat it before install , they confirmed with Ducati the tank is identical to the first one that deformed ( WTF ? )
