Best luggage for 2 up weekend trip
«
on:
March 15, 2011, 07:22:17 AM »
I am contemplating taking a short weekend trip on an '09 M696. I currently have no carrying capacity other than a backpack. I was wondering what is recommended for luggage for a 2 up weekend trip. I was thinking a tank bag and a backpack on the passenger. What experiences can you share from personal situations? Type of bag, brand, etc...

be aware that carrying a backpack can be tiring.
im guessing there will be a girl on back.
keep in mind this important formula
shoulder pain + fatigue= splitting headache
headache = lackanookie
best option would be saddlebags with brackets to keep them off the pipes.

Try a nice waterproof duffel strapped down on the pile-on. I did a 4k trip last summer with this setup and it was fine. Sorry, just noticed you said 2up. In that case, the DP tank bag can hold quite a lot of stuff.

VENTURA Rack System!!!

when you have a passenger on the back, just turn the bag around for to sit on the rack and you are ready to rock and roll!

Yeah, backpacks get to be unfun on a long trip.
For an older DSS Monster I'd suggest the tourmaster/cortech saddle bags - but with the exhausts on a 696, that's a bit of a problem. Flaming saddle bags will put a damper on.
If you pack super light a tank bag could do it...
How much stuff are we talking? Like change of skivvies? Or you need to dress for a formal dinner at the destination?

Pretty light. Thinking of heading to a golf resort and renting clubs, so just golf clothes really.

I have the cotech/tourmaster setup with the optional tailbag. If you pack right, you can fit a lot in just the tailbag. I've done 5 days with just the tailbag.
