What could be causing this?

I have a 2003 Monster 620...

The other day the immobilizer came on after starting up with no problems and being ridden for an hour.  I stopped at a gas station and when I went to start it up again the immobilizer light came on and the bike wouldn't start (or even attempt to turn over.)

So today I used the red key/card reset and the bike starts right up.  I ride it for 30 min...turn it off....when I go to start it back up a minute later the immobilizer light is back on and the bike is dead.

What can be causing this?

I would check the antenna and connection first.  That is assuming you tried both keys and turned the ignition completely off and tried again.  If the ignition is on over about 15 seconds it will time out.

$250 is hardly a cheap fix.  It may be the easiest answer.

I have used the card and red key reset as I stated earlier.  It's starting and running but then I'm in the same boat as soon as I turn the bike off I have to repeat the reset process.

I'm certain that Ducati didn't design these bikes with a flaw that requires all owners to eventually send their ECU off for a $250 reflash.

There is no fogging in the gauges. I will have to take apart the entire area up front and check the connections.
