Starting issues

I've had alot of problems with my 2000 m750 over the years but I got a quick question.

Just recently I've had some starting issues with the bike. Before everything fired up easily but now it will only start in neutral.
Clutched in while in gear the bike won't start at all, no firing and no clicks at all. Now since it starts fine in neutral is there some sort of switch within my clutch control that isn't allowing the bike to start? Obviously this isn't a large problem but I wanted to know if this could be some easy fix for myself.

Cheers

Nope, no switch in there.  I suspect your kickstand kill relay is doing something; there was something about a kit that included a diode that did something off the neutral light - does your bike have one of those?  I actually can't remember what it did; I jumped my kickstand relay & didn't get that kit (neutral light stopped working around 2002 anyway).

Could it be a bad kickstand switch? Maybe just a disconnected kickstand switch?

My 2001 does not have a clutch switch, but it does have a kickstand switch.  Stock, the Bike would only start if the kickstand was up.  Since I thought that was dumb, I modified the bike where it would start if the kick stand was up, but only in neutral.  This was all fine and good until the switch on the kickstand went bad.  I jumper-ed that  and I was on my way.  Now I have to be careful as my bike will start in gear with the kickstand down.  I'm sure I'll get around to fixing that any day now.

Ahha!  That's the diode thingy I was thinking of.  And yep, I've forgot to put my stand up when taking off a couple times - first little left turn, WHACK and it goes up.  Not the safest.

hmmm, ok. I'll have to check that out with the limited tools i have at school. Thanks for the help!

You don't even need tools, just a little piece of wire.  The raly is under the saet; it's on of two just hanging out by themselves.  Follow the kickstand wire to the correct one; unplug the relay, and stick the piece of wire across the connectors.  Not the kickstand switch connectors, the ones that go to the solenoid.

I'm not sure the older bikes have the relay under the tank.  I only seem to have the starter relay and the fuel pump relay.   I jumper-ed my connection at the plug of the kickstand switch connecter.
