Dragsterhund:

Did you end up getting registered/tagged before you got the emissions/safety check?

I'm about to go register and am trying not to screw up the order and end up waiting in more lines than necessary.

Also, if I have to register first -- do I need to have the bike with me for that part?  I don't have current tags on the bike and no pickup truck, so if I can drive down in my car with the proper paperwork and get the tags first it would be preferable (then I could grab the bike and take it to the inspection)

I know I can get temp tags, but that just adds another step to the process.

Thanks so much for any advice.

You should get tagged/registered before the safety check. (There is no emissions check...well not really a safety check either since they don't even look at your bike.) You do not need the bike with you to register it...only the paperwork. That said, I drove mine over without tags, got it registered and then rode straight to the sticker station about half a block away.

Thanks for the reply; really helpful.   [beer]

I went to the inspection station first, had the bike "inspected", then went next door to the DMV, and registered the bike and got tags. They did ask to see the inspection certificate.

Thanks Dragsterhund.  Looks like I will go to the registration area first, see if they let me get through without the cert.  If they don't, I will get a temp . . . and spend the next several mornings trying to sort this out.
