**NEW STYLE MONSTER OWNERS PLEASE READ**

As of late my '09 Monster 696 has been very hard to start.  Along with that, it has been falling on it's face a lot during quick throttle blips, and idling very low.  So I was out in the garage checking it out, and this is what I found.

I couldn't believe the vacuum hose had a hole in it already!  So luckily, since the hole was near the end, I was able to disconnect the hose, trim off a half in or so, and reconnect it.  I then reset the ECU just for good measure, and now it starts right up, and idles at 1250, right where it's supposed to instead of the 850 it was idling at before.  Also, no more studdering when I blip the throttle!  I recommend anyone having any problems like the above mentioned, check those vacuum hoses!

I dont know new style monsters but i know my S2R 800 like the back of my hand. That looks like a recirc line from the charcoal canister. But good info nonetheless.

I don't own a new style monster, nor can I tell where that "vacuum line" is going, but please explain how a vacuum leak results in a low idle??  Pull any vacuum line to an intake manifold (talking true engine vacuum line here) and see what the idle does...here's a hint: it won't decrease...

Haha, all I know is it will actually start now and idle normally.  I was almost ready to throw in the towel because I was so fed up with it not starting.  What sensor is that line connected to?

That isn't the charcoal canister hose.

That is the vacuum hose between the two manifolds that is connected to the intake pressure sensor.

a leak would have thrown off readings of the sensor and change the a/f ratio.
same thing happens when you take off the charcoal canister and you don't seal the holes in the manifolds or if you use rubber nipples and they get old and crack.

AAh, intake pressure sensor.  Thanks!  I couldn't figure out what it was.  Man it was running like hell until I found that!  I was surprised that it would fail that soon.

there's a lot of heat in that area it's more than 2 years old.. it happens. but a good reminder to do a once over every once and a while
