Rizoma Lux

Hi, I'm thinking of getting the Rizoma lux grips but I was reading through this thread ---> http://www.ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=27070.0 and was curious if this throttle stop problem is still an issue with them. This thread is kinda old so I was wondering if it's been resolved by now. I really don't want to have any kind of problems especially for that kind of cash. If not can anyone suggest a nice alternative?

honestly, the rizoma grips look sick. they are awesome... looking.

eventually i will change mine out for good ol' rubbers though. the comfort level (or lack there of) is definitely an issue for me.

Yup, they do look great.  But no way Rizoma is getting any more of my moeny for these grips - way too crappy build quality for the money.

I agree. I took mine off this winter and will be running the stockers from now on. It's a shame they are pretty, the cam just sucks. I thought of making a new cam, but I've decided it's not worth the effort.

Good to know, I decided to pass on them and just keep the stock grips for now. They do look great though but doesn't sound like they are worth the hassle. I did get a pair of rizoma reverse retros with bar ends and I must say the quality of the mirrors is top notch. Thanks for the replies

I'm bummed to see this many people unhappy with the quality of the Rizoma grips. The issue with the cam is something we've only see on Ducatis (and usually the pre-2001 models). There must be something different about the way Ducati constructs some of their throttle assemblies. We've got Rizoma grips on three Yamahas and our Hypermotard and we've never had a problem.

As far as the comfort issue, that has a lot to do with riding style. If you're the kind of rider who puts a lot of weight on your hands, then yes, you'll probably want some kind of squishy grip that will give you more cushion. Personally, I ride with a very light touch on the handlebars and use my back muscles to support my upper body. Granted, after a long day of riding I'll lean a little more on the bars, but my grip is still light as far as my hands.

If you're experiencing a lot of tingling and pain in your hands when riding, you might want to examine your riding style and how tight you're holding the grip.

So, I'm a firm believer in the quality of Rizoma's grips and all their products, but their grips aren't necessarily perfect for every rider, and the issue with the cams and Ducatis is a real bummer.

Why?  Its Rizoma who ought be bummed, yet they continue to sell the same substandard mutton dressed up as premium lamb.

Seems widespread across all models from my observations.  Mine failed in short order, fitted to 09 M696.  DucNaked - same failure, late model M1100.  Not sure where you get the idea the failure is limited pre-2001 fitments.  And.... who's "we"?

Fair enough opinion to hold.  Although I disagree.  In my experience - and the experience of way too many on this board - Rizoma grips are complete and utter overpriced shite.  For the money they ought be supplied with a cam made from a material somewhat more durable than cheese.  Usually when you dig deep into your wallet to pay the high prices demanded of Rizoma products what you get for your spend is a well designed, beautifully made piece.  Their grips are a sorry exception and IMO not worthy of their brand.

Are you guys having issues with the “Sport Line” as well or just the “LUX?”

The Sportline and Lux are the same um...... quality of build, same superb 35cent throttle cam, the same throttle tube within, the same widely reported failures.  Lux just costs even more.

I have the lux grips. They stick slightly at WOT for me. I could probably fix it with a dremel but have been too lazy. Still can't believe I paid $150 for them...

FWIW, the Driven D3 grips that APPEAR the same as the Rizoma sportline's are HORRIBLE. the fit is poor on the bar and the aluminum coller's will move around on the grip.

ill be using the tried and true 10$ rubber grips until something truly fantastic comes along.

Update April 27:

Not being a vendor here, I want to be very careful not to step on any toes, but I felt Rizoma's customers deserved an update.

We've been in touch with Rizoma, sending them a link to this thread, and telling them to read the other thread linked in the first post above. We're not sure if something got lost in the translation, but what they did was to send us a batch of new cams for anyone that wants one. Unfortunately, these are not re-designed cams, just extras of the one that some of you have been having problems with. We reiterated to Rizoma that what we need is a whole different cam specifically designed for Ducatis.

So, if anyone wants an extra cam in order to attempt a home-made fix, let me know.

We'll post other news if/when we get any.

I have LUX grips on my 696 and have never had any of the problems mentioned in either threads about them.  Not sure if I'm just slow and don't see whats happening or if maybe you fellas just had bad luck with them

amen.  they look nice but they are make the beast with two backsing terrible if you enjoy riding the damn bike.  its not about pressure on the grips for me either - i'm cool with a hard grip, but didn't like that it has the recess in one part that kind of forces my hand into a position - that, and they aren't near as sticky as the spidergrips i replaced them with.   i like their rearsets just fine, as well as their clutchadoodles reservoirs, and belt covers that I have. did not like the grips one bit.
