twitchy throttle response

as the title suggests, the throttle has gotten quite twitchy at lower speeds.  i expect some twitchiness in first gear but its noticeable in 3rd gear.

i noticed the chain is stretched more in some areas than others.  would this be a possible cause or do the carbs need to be cleaned? 
maybe a carb sync?

i'm also overdue for a valve job.  would this make a difference?

Sounds like you've got several things going on. Yes, if your chain has uneven sections, that is going to translate to changes in the power delivery to the wheel.

And yes, if your valves are wonky that can cause rough running, which will be more noticeable the lower the gear.

Combine the two, and I'd figure it'll feel rather rough.

Can't hurt to clean the carbs - maybe just run some techron, sea foam, BG-44k etc through a tank or two.

i should have noted that idling in neutral is quite smooth.  which is why i first thought to check the chain instead of the engine...

guess its time to order a new chain/sprockets

is the 2000 m750 a 520, 525, or 530?

Check the throttle cables too.  520.

what's the rear axle nut size on the m750?

from my crude measurement, it looks like 7/8" which equates to about 22mm.  i haven't seen that size on any of the spec sheets so i'm confused.  and my tools are about 30 miles away...

its also a regular nut.  not an internal hex
