Did my 1st oil change last night  [thumbsup]  Thanks to the you tube video, it was a breeze.  Only downer was I had to go buy a 14mm allen key to get the oil screen out.  My local hardware store only had one left and boy was it expensive ($8).

Question.  When I removed the oil drain screw, there wasn't a magnet on it??   ???

Its supposed to, at least on my stock M1100 it is there. Not sure what the newer deep sump motors have as plugs, seems weird not to have one. Have you checked the parts diagram online at Ducati.com? That's a good resource.

OMG. I'm a freaking idiot! [laugh] I took off the wrong screw. [bang]  I confused the screw underneath the oil screen with the oil drain plug.  I guess I should have paid more attention to the video.  Oh well.  Next time I'll know better, haha.  Looks like I got most of the oil out anyways? That screw sits lower than the oil drain plug.  I also refilled it w/ 2.5-2.6 Liters of fresh oil.  From a quick search, that seams like the right amount.

Question- What is that screw (#2 on picture) underneath the oil screen for?

I'm also curious as to what #2 is. It looks to be a drain plug for any oil that remains under the mesh screen, but I'm not sure why it's there. You can get the screen out without removing it, so it doesn't appear to lock it in place or anything like that.

What did you do about the service light?

Do you have a decent dealer who is willing to reset it for you for a reasonable fee?

I just left the service icon on.  It doesn't bother me.  I never bother asking the dealer if they would turn it off for me.  Maybe next time I'm in the neighborhood, I'll swing by and see if they would reset it for me.

I haven't seen the Icon yet - does it stay on ALL the time or just come on momentarily at start-up?

On my later-model Guzzi the Icon displays on the dash and stays there - of course, on that bike I can just enter a code into the dash computer and reset the icon so no biggie.

Its not a light.  Its a icon of a wrench that appears on the right side of the dash.  It stays on all the time.  As its not a light nor does it blink, it doesn't bother me enough to make the effort to bring it into the dealership to convince or pay them to turn it off.

YUP, that's the same as my Guzzi.

But I can't leave it there - I'm just to retentive lol.

When they eventually come out with an edition of the VDST for our bikes, I'll probably get that to reset the light.
