Cars are no different and some have said it was when they came out with headlights that turn off for you.  Idiots could be found just by seeing who had a dead battery at the end of the work day, but now, any tool can leave his or her lights on and they politely turn off for them.  They don't even have to pause from talking on the phone or texting or putting on mascara.  Blick-- off.

I am not the forgetful type when it comes to driving, but I could never understand why you would WANT to leave your headlights on, when your car is turned off.  In what circumstance would that even be necessary?  So I hate cars that allow you to turn them off but still have the headlights on.  I have a Subaru, and the headlights turn off automatically when you park and turn off the motor.  Not that I would forget.   ;)

which means no matter what, the technology is a waste of time.

better, they should develop something that does the same kind of scanning when the wheel is turned.

While waiting to turn left, you should have your wheels pointed straight ahead, lest you get pushed into oncoming traffic if somebody rear-ends you.

Once the system is activated (by hitting the turn signal),

It'd never turn on around here.  I think that turn signals must come from the factory disconnected.

I'm all for this right up until it automatically applies the brakes. Too many what ifs to have the car prevent me from going. What if the option is shoot across the intersection (assuming you have a split second of time to do so safely) or get plowed over by a semi coming up behind me? What if someone is on a bicycle crossing the other side of the street or a pedestrian and it slams the brakes while I'm trying to make my left and I get rear-ended?

Neat idea, take the braking part out of it. I'm all for a good loud klaxon by your ear though.

I'm curious, how often has that happened to you?  I have well over half a million miles under my belt and that scenario has never happened to me personally.  Honestly, semi drivers seem to be some of the most competent drivers around here.

Making a left, never, on the highway stopped in traffic, twice.

Once in my MR2 Spyder, once in my VW. Both are really low, so imagine looking in your rearview and seeing a semi bearing down on you with smoking brakes. Dove for the shoulder twice, in one case the semi stopped in time, the other they plowed through the rear end of the car in front of me. Had I been sitting there... who knows.

And "just turn off your turn signal"? Have you ever been in a real emergency that required a snap decision?
Every time I meet a new group of your friends that understand you and your weird sense of humor I'm a little more amazed that there are other people in the world like you that lived through childhood - My loving girlfriend
