What to do with a little too much oil?

I changed my oil a week ago and all looked fine at the end of that day. Today I checked it and it was above the second line. In fact it went to the top of the circle. What's the best way to let a little out? Just loosen the plug a little, let some drain, and then tighten back? Would that make the crush washer cause a leak? I know it's not good to run it to full but how much damage and what kind will it do?

Yes.

Loosen the drain plug and keep going until a drip starts.  Go slow.

I find it easier to do this with the strainer plug.

+1  Easier to control the flow through the screen plug so you don't dump all the new oil out on accident.

I have a fork oil leveling tool which acts like a siphon. I've used that in this situation before. A mightyvac might work too.

Turkey baster with a length of flexible tubing attached to the tip. Or, just get a 2' length of clear tubing and siphon it out with your mouth while watching the sightglass, bit by bit until it's down to the proper level. I wouldn't disturb the drain plug if it were me.

Strippers.

Nothing that can't be solved with strippers and some extra oil. I clean my cases with cocoa butter so they feel at home.

seriously the easiest way is a nice clean oil drain pan and empty the lot

then refill the correct level
i dont care if you have been a mechanic for 10 years doing something for a long time does not make you good at it, take my gf for an example shes been walking for 28 years and still manages to fall over all the time.

The siphon sounds like a plan. I'm a little too cheap to drain a bunch of brand new AmsOil and refill.

I think he was saying to use the oil that you dumped into the pan, that's why he said make sure it is nice and clean... that sounds like more trouble than some of the other methods though.

I never thought of using a siphon.  Why not?  The only problem is the oil is thicker than most fluids siphons are good for.  But if it works, sure.

Ok... All done. I ended up lossenin the drain plug and letting some drain. Once it got to the right level I just tightened it back up. No leaks on a short test ride so hopefully I'm all good.

For the sake of trying it, Ive reused a crush 6 times and it never leaked. It was marred and beat by then thought so I swapped it out. but ya, just once you shouldnt have an issue.
