I've been wanting a set of clip-ons on my monster but cant really afford them right now. The Suburban bars would be "clip-on'like" enough but bc they dont have them in Europe and with the shipping costs the price would get too high. So I came up with this probably really dumb idea to flip the original handlebars up side down... It would kinda give it the clip on feeling bc its would at least be lower. But how would affect the handling and everything?? so just tell me if it really is a stupid idea.  [thumbsdown] [thumbsdown] Thx

Not a dumb idea.  It's been done by quite a few others, me included.  Do a search for the previous threads on the subject of flipping the handlebar.  There are differing opinions on the subject.  I say do it.  Next guy will probably tell you it's a stupid idea and to get clip-ons.

Another option is to get a set of Laverda style adjustable clubman bars.  Do a search, there are a couple of threads on them too.  That's the route I ended up going with in the end after running with the flipped handlebars for three or four years.  I was happy with the flipped handlebars but wanted a little more sweep.  The adjustable clubman's are great because of the price, full adjustabliity, and I can keep my top-mount damper.

Wow, that came as a total suprise. I was so sure that its just a dumb idea and thats why I didnt even try the search. Sorry about that and thanks a lot darkstar!!  [thumbsup] [thumbsup]

what clip ons are you looking at? a set of woodcrafts is ~120$

Raux

there are several manufacturers out of italy that have clipons.

also, check with Desmoworld out of germany.

Thanks for your help. I looked some clip-ons on ebay. There are bunch "made in china clip-ons" but is this one of those things that you dont wanna buy cheap? I checked the Desmoworld ones the they had a set for 120â,¬ so that wouldnt be too bad.

I think flipping only works if you have the tapered bar (S2R). I tried it with mine and it didn't fit because of the bends it makes.

Oh, is that so? Well I guess I have to try it out tomorrow when I get back to my bike. But thanks!

edit: nevermind...finland... PM stopintime for his source of parts. He's in Norway and has the sourcing issues as well.

If you've got coffin reservoirs and are planning to run clip-ons, you'll want to pick up a pair of these to solve clearance issues:

undoubtly your bike may go down at some point, i would stick with brand new clip ons where tubes are easily accessibly. Woodcraft, LSL, Apex, etc.

Because parts and USPS shipping usually are quite affordable from the US, most of my shopping is done there [thumbsup]

That's what I recommend for the vodka guy as well.

+1 on the coffin spacers and then buying the bars from MonsterParts as well makes sense.
If he doesn't have the bars you want, I'm sure he can get them for you.

Lots of stuff in those threads regarding the bar flip, but i'll throw this out there anyway...
I tried the bar flip... and... well... the ergonomics just aren't right. The angles are awkward, the brake lines just don't fit properly, nothing seems to work well enough for my tastes. You can give it a try, it's easily reversed, just be prepared to not like it.

Your best bet, IMO, is to just save up for a little longer, and get the clip-ons you want.

Also, you would LOVE the Suburban Machinery bars. Great solution with ZERO modification required. I had them before i got my clip-ons. Honestly, I would have stuck with them had my new forks not protruded too far from the top triple to prevent me from using them.

Good luck! It will be a fun project either way.
