01 m900 intermittent spark issue

my stepdads 01 monster 900 has been having an intermittent spark issue. sometimes it will start and other times neither coils will produce spark. he has a power commander on the bike and when there is no spark i tried unplugging the power commander and still no spark. i found that 2 of the wires coming from the coil go to the ecm and could not find where the other two wires go. the 2 wires that go to the ecm do not have a high resistance so i dont think its a bad connection there. if anyone has any ideas it would greatly be appreciated

Perhaps the trigger has gone bad.
