I have electric/electronic issues that are way beyond my skills set. My 2006 S4R (996) will not start, does not turn over, nothing. It left me stranded 250 miles from the house. When ignition is turned on the left blinker starts blinking and when I turn it off the right blinker blinks even with the ignition turned off and the key removed. Battery is good; all connections have been checked and cleaned. I checked the immobilizer programming and the result is a "communication error between the decoder in the instrument panel and the engine control unit via serial line ISO 9141/5." The keys are also good; I have all three keys plus the key card.

I have purchased a used instrument cluster and just for the hell of it I hooked it up. I understand that the panel is not mated to my ECU but the new panel acted exactly the same way as the stock instrument panel. I have been able to start the bike using my key code and the immobilizer bypass procedure. The bike fires up fine but today I attempted to ride it and it ran horrible, popping, hesitating; it is unrideable.

I have checked the grounds and attempted to dry out the instrument panel. I am out of ideas and I do not want to take it in and start throwing parts at it. At first I thought it was the instrument panel but after today it might be both the instrument panel and/or the ECU. Either way I am not sure if the parts were faulty or I have short blowing everything up.  I guess my biggest question would be if I get a new ECU with the immobilizer function disabled do I still have to mate it with the instrument panel? I am open to all suggestions!!! At this point I will try anything to get back on the road!!! THANKS!!!!

Have you checked the immobilizer antenna?

Last night I installed a new immobilizer antenna. No change in the way the bike acts when attempting to start the motor. I am going to talk to the dealer today.
