I have been trying to track down a noise coming from my engine for the last few weeks. After some difficulty shifting gears today on my way home I decided to pull the cover on the clutch side and have a closer look. It had been suggusted to me from a few people on here that it could be a loose clutch hub nut or a loose flywheel nut. I visually inspected both a few weeks ago and nothing looked amiss.

I pulled the clutch today, is this sort of thing normal for a bike with 16k miles on it? I am really trying to keep from giving money to the service center but I am at my wits end... As you can see there are a few gouges on the pressure plate. The springs are also scuffed up. I have been finding quite a few metal flakes on the drain plug lately.  I have been dropping the oil to look for metal indicating a more serious issue. At least that's what the dealer told me to look for.

From the photos I see nothing wrong with the spring or pressure plate.  Metal on the drain plug?  At 16K it may be normal, but the noise wiuld still concern me.  Check the flywheel nut yet?  Has an expert listened?

While the side cover is off on the flywheel side there is a fork alignment lever and two springs.  Check the springs (they can break) and the lever adjustment.  See this thread:   http://www.ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=19013.0

That's an above-average amount of scrap on the magnet.

Pull the basket, check the springs/cush-drive on the back side, sometimes the springs will fail.

The springs are both working good. I compared them to the other partial engine I have. I did notice a few marks on this turning "drum" as shown in the pic.

Does the heat affect shifting at all? Was stuck in traffic on the hwy yesterday and the engine was around 120f....

It can if you haven't bled your clutch lately. Or ever.
Every time I meet a new group of your friends that understand you and your weird sense of humor I'm a little more amazed that there are other people in the world like you that lived through childhood - My loving girlfriend

Those marks are for adjustment.  I'm not sure I remember how to do the adjustment and don't have access to a manual right now.  A search of the board should come up with something.  Did you check the cush drives like Speeddog suggested?  He has a habit of being right.

Where is the cush drive on this one? Its a 695 and google didnt help me.

Looks like its going to the dealer, I don't want to mess it up and this appears beyond my skill level.

I already over tightened one of the bolts with the spring in the clutch. Broke off a piece of the metal...
