i ordered a smoke colored led taillight with integrated turn signals to replace the clear led on the back of my 01 monster 900 dark. had to remove the stock signals to let the hi mounts i put on clear the tail.  however, the new taillight comes with 5 bullet style connectors of which at least couple plug into the turn signal wires. however on the led being replaced there are 3 blade style connectors. when the new light is installed is there a completely different way that the wires are plugged/not plugged in to make everything work right? or do i need to do some slicing and dicing or order a different led (man i hope not)?

I've got a led tail light with integrated signals, and has five blade style connectors. One wire for running light, one for brake light two for turn signals, and one ground. Does your old light have integrated signals? I had to crush the stock bullet connectors with some pliers and made them into blade connectors. Other than that no slicin or dicin done.

the old light has no integrated signals

Then I would say that's why your new one has five wires instead of three. I still think it's plug n play. Just have to figure out what wire goes where

so are you saying that a couple of the wires will not be used on both the bike (the blade style, non turn signal wires) and a couple from the taillight? or will i have to modify a couple of wires to accept whatever connector?

Your old one (with the blades) was made to connect right into the bikes harness from the get go.   Seems like you new one.. not so much.  But a trip to radio shack and a little soldering time will fix it right up.  Easy-peasy.

Leave the bullect connectors on the turn indicator leads.  Remove them from the ground wire, the hot lead for the running light and hot lead for the brake light.  Solder on the male side of a blade to each (make sure you got the right size 1st!) and you should be all set.  No biggie.
-Throttle's on the right, so are the brakes.  Good luck.

Yes you will have two extra wires on your bike. On a stock bike there are three tail light wire, hot at all time, brake and ground. Each turn signal has two wires, power and ground. Your new tail light has five wires, one hot at all time, one brake light, one left turn signal, one right turn signal and one ground. When installing new light the two ground wires for the turn signal won't be used, just leave them tied up under your seat. You will just use the one ground wire for the tail light. Because it's a complete assembly they share the one ground. As for the actual connectors being different, it's up to you how you connect them. I just mickey moused them together, or you can solder them.

Here a link to some instructions to the tail light I installed, it might help illustrate things. Keep in mind there diagram of the bike harness does not show the ground wires for the turn signals.
